2nd Mechanical Service (HVACR) Pre-Apprenticeship Program

Local 72 and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Georgia are seeking qualified candidates for entry-level Mechanical Service (HVACR) Technician positions for the spring of 2018.  Interested candidates who participate in a 30-hour Pre-Apprenticeship Program will be eligible for the hiring fair on February 28, 2018.  Apprentices that are hired will receive a starting wage of $15.10 and will eligible for direct entry in Apprenticeship Program in the Fall 2018.


  • Requirements for participation in the Pre-Apprenticeship Program
    • Deadline to apply- February 11th, 2018.
      • Participants are required to complete registration form.
        • Complete online form at mti-jatt.org. Go to website, click on HVACR, Review details about the Pre-Apprenticeship Registration Program, click on the Pre-Apprenticeship registration form.
        • Check the website weekly for participation confirmation.
        • Registration Fee: $20.00 (Bring your $20.00 Money Order made out to the JATT on the first day of class.)
        • Qualifications for HVACR Pre-Apprenticeship Program
          • Pre-Apprenticeship Program registration form (Must complete online before Feb 11th).
          • Completion of a Technical School /Trade School diploma or degree program. (Must upload a copy of official transcripts from diploma or degree program from a technical or trade school. 
          • Participant must be at least 18 years of age.
          • VALID Driver’s License or State issued ID (Must upload a copy of ID that must contain photo, name, DOB, gender, height, eye color, and address)
          • Provide a 2nd form of ID: Birth Certificate, Social Security Card (with no restrictions), US Citizen ID Card, etc. (Must upload a copy)
          • Must provide a current Certified Driving History Report (MVR). This can be purchased through the DDS (Georgia Department of Driver Services) for $6.00.  The certified MVR should be sent your home and should be uploaded during the registration process. Your MVR should not be older than 30 days. 
          • Bring hard copies of these documents to the first day of class.
          • You will not be permitted to attend the Pre-Apprenticeship Program unless you have met all the requirements.
        • Who: Seeking qualified Mechanical Service Technician positions for Spring 2018 and entry into the apprenticeship program for Fall 2018
        • When: February 17 & 18 (Sat/Sun) and February 24 & 25 (Sat/Sun) 7:00AM – 4:00PM
        • How long: 30 hours of training on 2 consecutive weekends
        • Hiring Fair: February 28, 2018 at 9:00AM at 5675 Tulane Drive, SW Atlanta, GA 30336 with MCAG contractors.
          • Starting wage will be $15.10 / Jobs expected to start in March 2018.
        • Topics Covered:
          • OSHA 10, use and care of tools, basic hazards in the construction industry, basic electricity, and basic refrigeration (including basic safe handling of refrigerants)
        • Completion of Pre-Apprenticeship Program:
          • If hired and retain employment with one of the MCAG contractors, participants become eligible for direct entry into the apprenticeship program starting in the Fall 2018.
          • Participants are more qualified for entry into apprenticeship program.




HVACR Program

UA Local 72 has Service Technicians qualified to service any size or type of HVACR system. Our technicians are highly trained to not only repair systems, but to recognize potential failures or maintenance issues before they become a major problem.

The systems we service everyday ranging from central energy plants, large buildings, factories with chillers that produce thousands of tons of cooling, specialized computer rooms, cascade type low temperature systems used in cryogenic facilities or the latest DDC energy management control systems are critical for our clients to better serve their customers.

Local 72 Technicians have had thousands of hours of classroom, on the job and continuing education training. We have the latest and most advanced safety techniques available including OSHA, Arc Flash, Rigging and environmental training related to the handling and use of all types of refrigerants, lubricants and chemicals used in the HVACR industry.
